The True Journey

The True Journey: what does it truly mean to walk with Jesus, all the way, with no compromise?

Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it. Matthew 7:13-14

"Do you continue to go with Jesus? The way lies through Gethsemane, through the city gate, outside the camp; the way lies alone, and the way lies until there is no trace of a footstep, only the voice, "Follow Me". ~ Oswald Chambers

My name is Melissa Morris, and my prayer is that through these writings, you will learn about Jesus. And follow Him on the True Journey.

What Time Is It??

Geezy pete, I just realized it's been a loooooooong time since I did a blog post!

My computer died before Christmas so I had to reload everything...I lost my music, all my notes that I was working on...but oh well...clean slate time!

I find it interesting that I titled this post "What Time Is It"...do we really know what time it is? Last night at our Ladies Bible Study, we entered into our prayer time with many requests on our hearts, but mostly prayer for the current state of the Church and our laziness and lack of passion not only for Christ but for His ministry in this world.

Time is short...how serious are you about Jesus?

Dear Church

I have been to a lot of churches in my life: different denominations in different areas. Because of this, some have called me a “church-hopper”. It doesn’t hurt my feelings. I know why I am hopping. I just wish others knew why.

As I travel, I see one thing that seems to ring true in just about every church I have been in. There are some that just want control; and there are some that just want to follow Jesus. Somehow, the first group overpowers the second, most of the time not even in numbers. They are just loud, and in efforts to quite them down, they get the attention and get their way. Kinda like a toddler throwing a temper tantrum.

I have been in churches during “break-ups”. I am very sad to say I have been in more than one when this occurred.

I have seen a pastor invite the chairman of the deacons to “take this into the parking lot so we can solve it like men”.

I have seen business meetings held to vote a pastor out that had more people in attendance than had been in the church for years. There was snow and ice on the ground, yet every member (shut-ins included) was there to voice an opinion. Imagine how the world would be if we had revivals with those numbers!

I have seen a deacon stand up in church and refuse a new member (who tearfully made a profession of faith) because “she’s just joining so she can vote the preacher out”.

I have seen a long time church member stand at the altar, in front of the pastor, shaking her finger in his face and telling him “this church was fine ‘til you came along”. There were even some expletives involved in this one.

Recently, I have seen members of some churches usurping the authority of the pastor, spreading rumors and causing upheaval.

And I can say that I have been guilty of participating in some of the gossip, slander and non-Christlike attitudes in the past.

I don’t know about you, but I am tired of it all.

I want to go to Church!

Yesterday, as I was writing in my journal, something completely unplanned came out. And I want to share it with you today:
Dear Church,

The time has come to make a decision for Christ.

Move forward or die.

Become a light on a hill for the lost to find, and for the faithful to gather for the Lord’s work and to worship Him.

Be the Beacon, shining the light of Jesus Christ into a lost world, a lost country, a lost state, a lost county…a lost community.

And when they come, and they will, love them into the Church with the love of Christ.

Guide them with God’s Word.

Direct them to the Truth.

But do not hate them in their sin, for they are exactly what you used to be - lost and bound for Hell. But they long to be what you are now - a sinner saved by grace!

Show them the grace and mercy that God has shown you, through His Son Jesus Christ. For Jesus Christ shed His blood for ALL. Not for those who deserve to be forgiven, because none are - all we deserve is Hell and death and eternal punishment.

But God loved us so much that He sent Jesus to be whipped, beaten, scourged…and to have His Creation spit in the face of their very Creator.

And to be nailed to a tree.

Many wear the name of Jesus who have no idea who He is or what He wants His Church to do or be. They use it for selfish means, to feel important in an organization that they think they can have control over.

But that’s not Jesus

And that’s not the Church.

Jesus is God Almighty, the most Holy, Emmanuel, come to save us!

And the Church is His Bride, that He bled and died for, and will come again to take to Heaven with Him.

Don’t cheapen His grace by continuing to sin. Don’t replace Scriptures with Christian clichés.  Scripture says, “Because it is written: Be ye holy; for I am holy” (1 Peter 1:16)

Don’t spit in the face of His mercy by thinking you know it all. The Holy Bible is your guidebook; God’s plan is to grow each one of us to look more like His Son.

Don’t be a glutton at His table, gulping down His Supper while you have ill feelings toward those around you.

Don’t treat His Bride like a harlot - paying your tithe and giving your money, thinking you can use Her for your own pleasure.

Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. Galatians 6:7

We should come as faithful children, gathering at the feet of our Father to worship together and love each other.

To grow into the image of Christ.

To reach out to others with the love of Christ.

And to share the Gospel with as many people as we can, not just handing them a tract, but showing them with our lives that God is real! That we believe His Word and live it out every day!

Are you ready, Church? I am!

Faith And A Flat Tire

All of you who keep up with my writings and with me on Facebook know that for the past couple of years, there has been a lot going on in my life.  And during all of the health and financial issues, I have found my faith growing by leaps and bounds.

However, there are times that I worry. I know I am not supposed to, but there are times that life gets overwhelming  - I believe that these times are the times that we learn to grow closer to God and depend on Him for all of our needs.

Notice that I didn’t say our “wants”.

During my health issues, mom’s health issues, and our financial issues, there has never been a time that we did not have the things we need. Random checks showing up in the mail on the days we were down to nothing; even an anonymous envelope containing a $20.00 bill in the mailbox one day.

Each time this happens, I am humbled even more. Humility only comes by experience, and we fight that tooth and nail. I have always been a giver; learning to be a receiver is not an easy thing.

I had another one of those experiences in the past few days.

On Saturday, I was on my way home from Lovingston and I heard that dreaded sound. I pulled over, and found that the driver’s side front tire was flat. I couldn’t change it myself, but the blessing was that I had pulled over in front of a friend’s house, and her husband changed it for me. He let me know that both front tires were very worn on the inside.

I drove home on the small “donut” tire, and immediately began to wonder where we would get the money for at least 2 new tires.

Monday morning, I called our mechanic to see if he could take a look at it. Now he knows our financial situation, so when I take the car to him, he normally checks on things and then comes and talks with me about what needs to be done and how much it might cost.

Well, they pulled the car in and began working on it. Time went by. I heard noises, tools being used, and wondered why he hadn’t been out to tell me what was going on.

I got nervous. I was figuring up in my head how much two tires would cost. How much it would cost to fix whatever was wrong that caused the tires to wear so bad.

Then I prayed.

A few minutes later, he came in the office rolling the other front tire and told me the car needed to be aligned, and that was what had caused the tires to wear. Then he smiled at me and said, “I’m gonna tell you how the Lord works”.

He told me that he had gotten a call on Saturday from a man who had never been to his garage before and that he didn’t know, and the man wanted four new tires of a specific brand. He had them in stock, so he told the man to come on and he would put new tires on the car for him. When the man arrived, our mechanic looked at his old tires and they were in good shape, so he wondered why the man wanted new ones. But he went ahead and replaced them as the man requested.

He looked at me and said, “You may not believe this, but I still had those tires in the back and they are the same brand and size that are on your mom’s car. So I went ahead and put them on for you”.

I was amazed! I was thankful! And I immediately thought how less expensive used tires are!

They finished working on the car, and he came out and told me I was ready to go. I asked him how much we owed him. This is what he said:

“You don’t owe me a penny. The man paid me to dispose of them and I was gonna throw them away. So you don’t owe me anything. Consider it a blessing from God”.

I cried. I’m crying now while I am writing this. I hugged him, thanked him, thanked Jesus, and cried all the way home.

See, while I was worried, God had already fixed it.

God made a way.

He supplied my needs.

By sending a random man to Wingina to get new tires when he really didn’t need them; and by giving us an honest, Christian mechanic who truly cares about people.

See what can happen when we truly listen to God - when He asks us to do something that doesn’t make sense to us, but we obey Him. We may never know why He asked us to do a certain thing, but you better believe He has a reason for it.

There’s another way that God has supplied my needs. See, I am a sinner. There is no way I could redeem myself, or pay for my sins. So God made a way, through His Son Jesus Christ, to pay a debt I cannot pay.

While I was a sinner, God had already fixed it.

But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5:8

God made a way.

Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. John 14:6

He supplied my needs.

But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:19

And He supplied your needs. The need for a Saviour.

For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;  Romans 3:23

Say yes to Him today...and travel the True Journey.
